Additional Updates

  • A custom metadata field for "Campus Offices" was added and includes: 
    • Mines Online, HIVE multimedia, and other administrative departments on campus using MediaSpace

Features Added

  • Announcement sent via campus email memo: 
    • Public Sharing Changes: Starting December 20, 2024, all publicly published MediaSpace content will be visible to anyone on the internet. Faculty and staff are encouraged to review video publishing settings to ensure content is shared appropriately.
    • Relinking of HIVE-Produced Vimeo Content:
      • Summer 2024 Courses: Faculty should verify that HIVE-produced video links now point to MediaSpace instead of Vimeo before copying courses forward.
      • Fall 2024 Courses: After grade submissions, manually update Vimeo links to MediaSpace using the guide: Access HIVE-Produced Content within Canvas.
  • Metadata Schema Adjustments: Planning updates to metadata fields to enable users to better categorize videos in MediaSpace.

Additional updates 

  • Lecture Capture: Testing of MediaSpace software on lecture classroom computers for instructional use is ongoing.
  • Teams Meeting Recordings: Testing of Teams integration that sends scheduled meeting recordings to MediaSpace platform was successful.  Formal request for change to implement this feature is pending.
  • 3Play Integration: 3Play integration is installed in sandbox for Mines Online account/billing info.

  • Live Streaming: Support for live stream events using Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) into MediaSpace platform.

  • Canvas Embed Settings: Available embed setting sizes - 1024x576, 640x360, 400x225
  • Audio Descriptions: Tested manually adding multi-track audio for alternate languages or audio description, but this feature isn't working as expected. We will reach out to the vendor to troubleshoot.
  • Professional captions: The REACH pilot for ordering captions through Kaltura is ongoing with Mines Online. The service has worked well for them so far in the sandbox. We have a few questions to clarify with the vendor and we plan to test additional features in November.

  • Interactive video paths: Make an interactive set of videos where learners can select options and view different videos based on their choices. Visit the guide to creating interactive video paths for examples and instructions for how to use this new feature.
  • Embed MediaSpace videos in Mines WordPress: For those who manage Mines websites in WordPress, you can now contact Communication & Marketing and request to embed MediaSpace videos in your web pages. Additional updates

  • Professional captions: The team started working on a pilot project to test the REACH service, which helps video content managers order paid professional captions for videos.
