MediaSpace: How to Update Video Publishing Status

This guide explains how to check and update the visibility settings of your videos in MediaSpace to ensure they are shared appropriately.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Access MediaSpace

  1. Log in to MediaSpace:

Navigate to My Media

  1. Go to My Media:
    • Click on My Media from the My MediaSpace navigation link to access yourmedia library.

Edit the Video Publish Settings

  1. Locate the video you want to update.
    • Select the appropriate video from your media library
  2. Edit the video.
    • Click the pencil icon (Edit) next to the video title to open the editing options.

Review and Change the Visibility Setting

  1. Select the Publish Tab.
    • On the video editing page, click the “Publish” tab.

  2. Review the current setting under “Publish Status.”
    • Private: Only you can view the content.
    • Unlisted: Accessible only via direct link.
    • Public: Visible to anyone visiting MediaSpace or via search engines.

  3. To update the visibility:
    • Select the appropriate option (Private, Unlisted, or Public).
    • Click the “Save” button to apply the changes.

Verify the Changes

  1. Return to My Media and check the video’s publish status under the video title.

How to Update Video Publishing Status for Galleries (for Managers)

Access the Gallery Management Tools

  1. Log in to MediaSpace:

    • Open your web browser and log into my.mines.edu with your Mines credentials.

    • Navigate to the MediaSpace tile within my.mines.edu or use the URL: mediaspace.mines.edu.

  2. Navigate to the Gallery Management Page:

  • In MediaSpace, locate and open the gallery for which you are a manager.
  • Click the menu icon in the top-right corner of the gallery page and select Edit.

Edit the Publishing Status of a Gallery

  1. Scroll down and review the current setting under “Publish Status.”
    • Private: Only you can view the content.
    • Unlisted: Accessible only via direct link.
    • Public: Visible to anyone visiting MediaSpace or via search engines.

  2. To update the visibility:
    • Select the appropriate option (Private, Unlisted, or Public).
    • Click the “Save” button to apply the changes.

Edit the Publishing Status of Videos in the Gallery

  1. Within your gallery, select the Video to Update:

    • Find the video you want to update and click the pencil icon next to its title to open the editing options.

  2. Review the current setting under “Publish Status.”
    • Private: Only you can view the content.
    • Unlisted: Accessible only via direct link.
    • Public: Visible to anyone visiting MediaSpace or via search engines.

  3. To update the visibility:
    • Select the appropriate option (Private, Unlisted, or Public).

Verify the Changes

  • Return to the Media tab in the gallery page and confirm the updated publish status for the video under its title.

How to Update Video Publishing Status for Channels

Access the Channel Management Tools

  1. Log in to MediaSpace:

    • Open your web browser and log into my.mines.edu with your Mines credentials.

    • Navigate to the MediaSpace tile within my.mines.edu or use the URL: mediaspace.mines.edu.

  2. Navigate to the Channel Management Page:

  • In MediaSpace, locate and open the Channel for which you are an owner / manager.
  • Click the menu icon in the top-right corner of the channel page and select Edit.

Edit the Publishing Status of a Channel

  1. Scroll down and review the current setting under “Publish Status.”
    • Open: All logged in users can view and contribute content (contribution is not allowed for viewer-role users).
      Restricted: All logged in users can view content and only channel members can contribute content.
      Private: Only channel members can view and contribute content.
      Shared Repository: Only channel members can view and contribute content; Content may be published to other channels, according to publishing entitlements.
  2. To update the visibility:
    • Select the appropriate option (Open, Restricted, Private, or Shared Repository).
    • Click the “Save” button to apply the changes.

Additional Tips

  • If you are unsure which setting to use:
    • Use Private for content that is archived or not ready for sharing.
    • Use Unlisted to share videos only with specific individuals using a direct link.
    • Use Public only for content intended for a broad audience.
  • Regularly review your video library to ensure content visibility aligns with your sharing goals.
