How to Use a Xerox OreCopy Printer in Linux (Ubuntu)

This procedure was tested with Ubuntu 22.04 as of 10/12/2023

A pre-requisite is to install the following packages first:

sudo apt install smbclient

sudo apt install python3-smbc

Then:

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on Printers.
  • Click the Additional Printer Settings button.
  • Click the Add button.
  • In the 'Find Network Printer' section, click on Windows Printer via SAMBA item.
  • Fill in with the following:
    • SMB Printer: smb://cyclone.mines.edu/OreCopy (or OreCopyColor).
    • Authentication > Set authentication details now > Username: adit\username > User your Mines password.
    • Click the Forward button.
    • Reference example below:

  • Select Generic for the driver and click Forward.
  • Select Postscript and the default Foomatic driver and click Forward.
  • Change the Short name to what ever you like.  Eg: OreCopy.
  • Change the Description to what ever you like.  Eg: OreCopy.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click Cancel at the test page screen.

You are now ready to print now!
