Service Description
Microsoft Office 365 is a web-based platform that offers access to a variety of Microsoft applications and services. Office365 has a web-based version of the core Microsoft Office applications and includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote amongst many other Apps. All documents created in the web-based applications are automatically saved to your OneDrive for Business cloud storage. A full version of Office Professional Desktop for Windows, Mac and mobile devices can be downloaded through the
Office365 Portal on up to 5 devices.
Some Office applications are not included in the standard Office365 license, such as Microsoft Visio or Microsoft Project. You may use this service to request a license for these software titles, which require an additional purchase in most cases. Some 3rd-party apps, extensions, and plug-ins offered through the Office365 portal require a Software Review Request before they can be accessed.
Audience
All current Mines students and employees are provided access to the base services as part of the school’s volume license contract.
Service Levels
This is a cloud service available 24/7. Support is provided through the Mines Help Center. Product licenses often require several days for purchases to complete and for orders to process before access can be granted.
Requirements
An active Mines user account (@mines.edu email) is required. Access to the Microsoft portal will be terminated within 30 days of separation from Mines, including access to online file storage in OneDrive.
Requesting the Service
Access to the service is automatically enabled for active user accounts and no separate request is required. However, if you're experiencing issues with an Office product, use this service to seek help or request additional access beyond the base license.
You can also get in-person and phone support by visiting the IT Service Desk or calling 303.278.HELP.
Documentation
Additional information on Microsoft applications and other titles may be found in our Software category of the Mines Help Center knowledge base.
In addition, Microsoft provides a portfolio of training resources located in their Microsoft 365 Training Center. This online training can also be found using the Help option in the Microsoft Office portal or any Microsoft Office product when your device is connected to the Internet.
