Changed Percent Complete from 75% to 76%.
Last week, a request was made to allow student athletes access to the gym and locker rooms for the summer. The short-term solution was for Paul Myskiw to create a zero-credit course and enroll them into it. A long-term solution needs to be discussed in more detail with ITS and Natalie Vega. An idea that was discussed was to give access to students that are enrolled for upcoming semesters. A bigger discussion on what constitutes a "student" will be had as part of the IAM commercial solution implementation.

New Project Request

How can we help you?
Please provide details regarding your request? Do you have a solution defined or do you need support identifying a solution?
Each summer there are requests to give students building access. The Lenel application only allows students building access when enrolled in courses or working for Mines. Please see ticket 17797409 for an example of a request for building access even when not registered.
Provide the background of this request.
What events or discussions preceded this request? Have there been previous efforts related to this request? Are you working with a vendor already? What are the benefits of this initiative?
The Lenel application activates and deactivates access for students based on if a student is currently registered for a course and if the student is a student employee. Most summers, there are a handful of requests to activate students because they are volunteering on campus, working with faculty on a course (but not enrolled in a course), and living on campus.

With the business process changes due to COVID, it's time to review the Mines practice of locking students out of buildings over the summer and to determine if/how a student gains access when not registered for a course. There are security and risk concerns that need to be considered (what happens if a student is given access to a building and is hurt for example).
What is the desired completion date?
Please note that projects will be completed based on resource availability and prioritization.
05/01/2022
What are the factors driving the desired completion date?
Are there campus activities, legal requirements, dependent efforts or goals that are driving a date?
So we're ready to go for Summer term.
Provide the executive leader(s) who will champion this initiative?
These individuals support the success of this effort, such as removing obstacles, sending strategic communication and promoting necessary policy changes.
Sam Crispin, Natalie Vega, Paul Myskiw, Academic Affairs
What team members have been identified to help drive this initiative?
Please note that involvement of department team members is critical to the success of this inititive.
Guy DeLuca and Access Services
Any additional information about this request that you would like to include?
Who does this project help? What happens if this project is not completed?
