This guide will help you move your home drive files and folders to OneDrive. Please note, you'll need to be on a Mines network (or on VPN if you're off campus) to follow these steps.
Contents
- Add/map the home drive to your laptop (if that hasn't been done already).
- Downloading the Microsoft OneDrive for the App Store.
- Setting up your Mines OneDrive account.
- Copying the files and folders from your home drive to the OneDrive folder.
-
Click on the start menu and navigate to File Explorer.
-
Find your network/departmental (Z, Y, and I) drives. However, if the drive is not mapped, please follow step 3 and 4. If you do see a network/departmental (Z, Y, and I) drive, please proceed to step 4.

- Click on This PC in the left hand menu. Then, click on the ellipses (...) and select Map network drive.

- The drive letter can be whatever is pre-populated in the Drive: menu dropdown (in the example below, it is the Z: Network Drive). The folder will be the home drive location. \\home.mines.edu\home\username. Now, add your username into the file path.

-
Pull up two File Explorer windows: one window with your home drive, the second window with your OneDrive. You can start selecting files and folders and either copying them from your home drive into your OneDrive OR dragging and dropping the files and folders from your home drive into your OneDrive folder.

Once your files and folders are moved, OneDrive will automatically back them up to the cloud. You can access these files from any device with OneDrive set up or directly through the web.
