Migrating home drive to OneDrive [Windows Version]

This guide will help you move your home drive files and folders to OneDrive. Please note, you'll need to be on a Mines network (or on VPN if you're off campus) to follow these steps.

  1. Click on the start menu and navigate to File Explorer.
  2. Find your home drive. It will more than likely be a Z: Network Drive. However, if the drive is not mapped, please follow step 3 and 4. If you do see a Z: Network Drive, please proceed to step 4.

  1. The drive letter can be whatever is pre-populated in the Drive: menu dropdown (in the example below, it is the Z: Network Drive). The folder will be the home drive location. \\home.mines.edu\home\username. Now, add your username into the file path.

  1. Pull up two File Explorer windows: one window with your home drive, the second window with your OneDrive. You can start selecting files and folders and either copying them from your home drive into your OneDrive OR dragging and dropping the files and folders from your home drive  into your OneDrive folder.

Once your files and folders are moved, OneDrive will automatically back them up to the cloud. You can access these files from any device with OneDrive set up or directly through the web.
