How to configure manual Windows Updates for ADIT workstations

If you have a workstation that should not be part of the automated Windows Update cycle ADIT machines default to, please follow these directions.

  1. Please request that your computer be added to the exemption group via a service request at: Service - Cybersecurity Suggestion, I... (mines.edu)
  2. Once it that request has been completed, reboot your workstation to pick up the new group membership
  3. From the Start Menu, search for "group policy" and launch "Edit Group Policy"
  4. Browse in the sidebar to: Local Computer Policy -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Updates
  5. Double-click "Configure Automatic Updates"
  6. Under the "Configure automatic updating" dropdown, select one of the options that most fits. (note: the default in ADIT is option "4 - Auto download and schedule the install")
