Supported Operating Systems:  SIMULIA manages a platform page: System Requirements.

General Description:

Abaqus is a robust Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software used across industries to simulate complex engineering problems with high accuracy. Designed to maximize the theoretical potential of FEA, it offers flexibility without imposing unnecessary limitations.

With an extensive library of elements and materials, Abaqus can model a wide range of geometries and behaviors from metals under varying temperatures and strain rates to materials like rubber, polymers, concrete, glass, foam, soil, and rock.

Beyond structural analysis, Abaqus supports simulations involving heat transfer, mass diffusion, acoustics, piezoelectric, and electrochemistry, either independently or coupled with mechanical behavior.

Its modular design allows users to combine elements, materials, procedures, and loading conditions freely, enabling accurate simulations of static or dynamic scenarios. Abaqus empowers engineers to build and test virtually any model, turning concepts into reality with confidence.

Availability: For classroom/lab availability see Campus Computing Labs.

Licensing Mechanism: Some campus computing labs and limited research.

Method for Obtaining: If you need an ABAQUS product, please submit a request for installation to the Mines Help Center. You must have the owner of the license (Dr. Anthony Petrella) send you an email granting you permission to use one of their licenses. Make sure they detail what licenses you need and then paste that entire email into the description field of the request.

Documentation:  Available at Documentation Center.

In case of difficulties running the software in a Mines ITS managed lab:  Contact ITS via the Mines Help Center. We want the program to be properly installed, licensed and functioning. If you have questions about the use of the program, please contact your instructor, TA or lab manager.
