How to Update macOS FileVault Account Password after Mines Password Change

These instructions are for Mines ADIT-joined Mac's.

If you have an Intel Mac with FileVault (encryption) enabled and you have updated/changed your Mines password, you may no longer be able to logon to your Mac at the FileVault login screen with the new password.  To remedy this, do the following:

Logon to your Mac with your username_a account or other admin account.

Open Terminal from Finder > Applications > Utilities.

Type the following commands:

sudo fdesetup list (you will need to type your username_a password, when prompted)

Note the list of user names and identify your account in the list so it can be used below.

sudo fdesetup remove -user username

Substitute 'username' shown above with your actual username.

sudo fdesetup add -usertoadd username

Substitute 'username' shown above with your actual username.

When prompted for 'username', type the admin account (username_a) and admin password and then your new Mines password.

You can test the logon by rebooting and typing your new password after clicking the FileVault icon at the logon screen.
