How to Configure Microsoft Outlook for Mines Exchange Mail (Office365) Account

This article describes the process for creating a Microsoft Outlook profile on your PC or Mac for your Mines Exchange email server (Office365).  This article uses Outlook 2019 as an example.


Configuring Outlook for Windows

  • Click the Start button and type 'Outlook'.
  • Click the Outlook app icon in the programs list.

  • The Welcome to Outlook window will appear.

  • Type your Mines email address and click the Connect button.  If you are signed in with your ADIT account, it should already be populated.
  • At the login prompt, type your Mines Multipass, click the Remember my credentials checkbox, and Click the OK button.

  • Uncheck the Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too, unless you want to do that.  Click the OK button.

  • Outlook will now open.  If you have a lot of email on the server, the local cache sync will take some time.  When the status at the bottom of the Outlook window shows "All folders are up to date.  Connected to: Microsoft Exchange", the sync is complete:


Configuring Outlook for macOS

  • Open Finder and click Applications in the favorites pane.
  • Scroll through the apps list and double click Microsoft Outlook.

  • At the Welcome to Outlook windows, click the  Get Started button.
  • If you also see a Sign in to Activate Windows window, click the Sign in button.
  • At the Sign in window, type your Mines email address (eg. username@mines.edu) and click Next.

  • Click the Work or school account option.

  • At the authentication prompt, type your Mines email address and Multipass.  Click the Sign in button.

  • If your account is DUO-enabled, select your DUO authentication method and continue the sign in process.
  • Click the Start using Outlook button.
  • If prompted, click the Add username@mines.edu button.
  • After your account is added, you can click the Done button.
  • Outlook will now open.  If you have a lot of email on the server, the local cache sync will take some time (potentially several hours).
  • You can monitor the sync status by clicking the menu item Tools > Sync Status.

  • When the status window no longer shows any sync items remaining, it is complete.
