Changed Percent Complete from 3% to 7%.
The initial planning work on the project involves understanding our on-prem system agreements and limiting those to the time we need support, that is, through October 31st.  In our first sprint of the project, Craig D. and I:

  • Reviewed all our in-scope vendor relationships to understand the status and whether or not we need to pay vendors to keep support after June 30th.
  • Aligned with Vanessa upon her return on the effort to collect costs associated with the delay in the Banner SaaS project.

We also attended the Higher Digital presentation on Thursday and reviewed the results.  Their change management results/recommendations have implications for our decommissioning of Cognos, Banner On-prem and the ODS.  I expect to have additional discussions to align with ITLT about what these mean for this project along with the Banner Saas and Edify implementations.

After our initial sprint review/retrospective, our upcoming sprints will focus on the three major areas - contract, application, and server decommissioning.  Our next meeting to discuss the overall contract negotiations status will be on Tuesday, May 21st.  This effort has involved the Mines representatives involved with each vendor relationship (and the corresponding products):
  • Ellucian (Banner/ODS) – Amanda Mojica and Vanessa Rael
  • DLT (Oracle) – Megan Averch-Popp
  • Plante Moran (Cognos) – I plan reach out to Jackie this week to find out more
  • Transact (Cashnet, PayMyTuition) – A vendor meeting is scheduled with Jenny Phou
  • Hyland (Hyland Data Transfer) – Angie, Megan, and John O.

Also important to our upcoming plans is how mitigate the risk of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7 support ending on June 30.  We’ll continue to provide biweekly updates to the AS/Infrastructure/Security group and share relevant information on our project team site, including:
1.  Contract status
2.  Servers to be decommissioned
3. Out of office dates

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to myself or Craig D. if you have any questions about this status report or anything else concerning the project.  As I will be out-of-office on May 16-17, the next status report will be for the two-week period ending May 24th.

Description

Mines is implementing Banner SaaS, which will replace the on-premises instances of Banner, including the operational data store (ODS) and IBM Cognos Analytics for reporting.

This project proposes to decommission these systems and corresponding servers as the final step after the Banner SaaS and Edify implementations are complete.
