Hi Network Modernization Team~
 
There has been so much focused activity in designing, installing, cabling, training and communicating for upcoming project milestones!
Below are the project critical dates:
Saturday May 18th: Data Center Migration- Move physical connections and routing on servers in the data centers. Detailed go-live and testing plan created. Communications to app/server owners sent. Campus communication will be sent out 5/13 and 5/16.
Tuesday, May 28th: Hardware install (switches/access points) starts in 1600 Jackson as the PILOT location.
Saturday June 1st: The upgrade of the circuit from 10Gb to 100Gb, the firewalls, and the border routers. Final border router configuration scheduled for 5/22. Planning sessions held on 4/1 and 5/6, detailed schedule in progress.
Monday, June 3rd: Hardware install (switches/access points) begins in the Residential Halls. In June, we will be installing in Thomas, Weaver East, Elm and Morgan. In July, we will install in Spruce, Bradford, Randall, Maple and 1750 Jackson and Weaver West (August). Initial cabling has been completed in the Res Halls already. In mid-August, the team will circle back to the Academic/Administrative buildings.
Monday, June 17th: Dependent on the next 5 weeks of conduit/cable installation, the hardware (switches/access points) will start in the Football stadium.

Increasing density for Mines' indoor and outdoor wireless to ensure pervasive wireless coverage campus-wide. Updating network hardware (access point and switches). Coverage increase includes: buildings, stadium and other open spaces. Request includes a re-architecture of the network to modernize. Enhancement of security through implementation of Network Access Control working towards a Zero Trust Network Architecture. Includes replacement of Border Routers to be 100Gb connectivity. Includes replacement of Border Routers to be 100Gb connectivity and replacing core switches/routers in the data center.

Initial driver was End of Service Life for network switches and access points. Feedback from stakeholders of incomplete wireless coverage. Current network design is antiquated and is not conducive for modern security.

Network vendor is required. Funding from the State is requested. Awarded Tech Fee which is 1.2M over 3 years. Large amount of cabling required for outdoor implementation, enhancement to fiber backbone to increase redundancy.
