An Alumni's Guide to Keeping Your Mines Email Post-Graduation

Summary

IT is pleased to announce this service in response to student demand for a Mines alumni email address for graduates. Here's what you need to know to keep your student@mines.edu email address after graduation.

Body

All Mines students graduating with a degree (vs a certification) will get to keep their student@mines.edu email by default—you don’t need to fill out any forms to get one.

If you have already graduated and don’t have an alumni email or an active student@mines.edu email address, please complete the form at Service - Alumni Email Access Request

Here’s what you’ll need to do to before your graduate:

Update your recovery email address and phone number

In case you are ever locked out of your student@mines.edu email account, we’ll need an email or a phone number to verify your identity.

During, or soon after, the checkout process for graduation:

  • Log into your my.mines.edu account (https://my.mines.edu) with your full @mines.edu email and password.
    • Click on the Trailhead card
    • Search for Banner General Self-Service and select.
    • Verify that the email listed under the email section is up-to-date and is a non-Mines email address.
      • Your non-Mines email on file can be used in the future to perform a password reset on your Mines account.
    • If no phone number is listed under the phone number box, add your mobile phone number in case we need to contact you outside of email for any identity verification.
  • Need to update your secondary email on file in Trailhead as an alumni?
    • Since Alumni do not have access to Trailhead, please email registrar@mines.edu for assistance updating your personal contact information.

Important reminders about your new alumni email address

  • Upon graduation (with a degree), your student record will be deactivated, which means you’ll lose access to most of Mines' systems and services. However, your student@mines.edu email address and contents will be preserved.
    • Email Access:
      • You will be required to log in to https://my.mines.edu within 90 days after graduation to keep your account active. After that, log in at least once a year (we recommend logging in monthly) to ensure continued access.
      • Keep the Okta Verify Mobile app on your device–it will still be needed to access your email.
    • Services you'll lose access to:
      • You’ll no longer have access to several systems and applications, including by not limited to:
        • VPN
        • Library resources such as Prospector and Interlibrary Loan
        • Paid subscriptions offered via the library to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and other periodicals.
        • Microsoft services and applications such as Teams, OneDrive, OneNote, and the Microsoft Office applications will also no longer work.  Shared documents from OneDrive will no longer be shared or accessible. IT will not be able to retrieve these files.
        • Canvas
        • Your Z: drive
        • Mines provided Google Drive and Docs. Shared documents from Google Drive/Docs will no longer be shared or accessible. IT will not be able to retrieve these files.
