What is Mines MediaSpace? 

Mines MediaSpace is a multimedia content management service offered by Mines Information Technology. This platform helps you manage, store, and share Mines videos and other multimedia content. 

Who can use Mines MediaSpace? 

All faculty, staff, and students can upload Mines-related videos that adhere to institutional policies. Please visit the MediaSpace Terms of Service page for more information.

Who can view my videos in Mines MediaSpace? 

Videos in Mines MediaSpace can be public (available to anyone at Mines), unlisted (available to anyone with a link), or shared only with specific users or groups in MediaSpace.  

Is MediaSpace the right platform for my video? 

Mines MediaSpace is primarily intended to host multimedia content related to research, teaching, coursework, training, or academic events at Mines.  

Videos intended for marketing, outreach, or public use or videos that need to be easily searched and discovered by the public should also be posted to a Mines YouTube channel.  

What rights or permissions are necessary to upload a video to MediaSpace? 

You should only upload videos or other media that you created, are the copyright holder for, or otherwise have rights or permissions to share. Please visit the MediaSpace Terms of Service page for more information.   

Do I still own my content if I upload it to Mines MediaSpace? 

If you were the copyright holder of a video before uploading it, you retain your copyright after uploading it to Mines MediaSpace. The Mines Intellectual Property Policy has more information about content ownership for Mines employees and students. 

Content in MediaSpace is subject to the Mines IT Appropriate Use policy and may be accessed, managed, or removed by designated staff according to applicable Mines policies. 

How long does my content stay in MediaSpace? 

Mines MediaSpace is intended as a sharing platform for videos that are up-to-date and actively used. There currently are no restrictions on how long videos may be stored in MediaSpace. 

Storage and bandwidth are not unlimited in MediaSpace, and Mines may update policies in the future related to storage limits and expiration of content. All users will be informed about changes to storage policies before they are implemented. 

Please ensure you have a backup copy of important media files you upload to MediaSpace. 

What happens to my videos when I leave Mines? 

If you are leaving Mines, please delete videos and other uploaded media that are no longer needed following the Mines IT appropriate use policy. Content that should be retained according to the Mines Record Retention Policy should be transferred to another user. If you need help downloading or transferring your videos, please submit a MediaSpace help request

After your departure, MediaSpace administrators may delete, transfer, or otherwise manage videos under your inactive account as necessary.
