Facility Online Manager (FOM) User Guide

Overview

The Facility Online Manager (FOM) system allows Mines users to:

  • Request training on instruments.
  • Reserve instrument time.
  • Submit work requests to the Mines Research Machine Shop.

And it allows Mines instrument managers to:

  • Add new instrumentation to the FOM System.


System Access:

Facility Online Manager tile in my.mines.edu

FOM is accessed via the Facility Online Manager tile in my.mines.edu or by going to https://mines.fomnetworks.com/fom/ directly.   Users follow the steps below to register their account for initial and ongoing use. 
 

1. Register Your Account

a.  Go to the FOM website: https://mines.fomnetworks.com/fom/ or access it via the FOM tile within my.mines.edu.
b.  Click 'Login with Mines Multipass ID.'
If the new user registration box does not appear: Go back one screen, select 'Login with FOM username and password,' then click 'I am a new user.'

c.  Select the 'Internal User' radio button.
d.  Complete the registration form; ignore 'Account Payable, Contact and Fed Tax ID#' fields.

e. Complete the spam protection exercise
f. Click 'Submit'.

2. Add your charge code

Each internal Mines user must enter at least one charge code on the My Accounts page.

  1.  Use the 6-digit worktag for your project.
  2.  Ensure the account is active and adequate funding is available.
  3.  If you are accessing instrumentation for an academic class, enter the full course name and number (e.g., PHGN482).
    If the system does not accept this information, please email sif@mines.edu for assistance.
     

3. Request Instrument Training

  1. From the User Home window, select the instrument from the list on the right.
  2. Submit your training request.
     

4. Keep worktags updated

  1.  Deactivate expired tags.
  2.  Add new ones as needed via My Accounts (left-hand menu).
     

5. Manage user preferences

a. Go to My Profile (left-hand menu) to adjust auto logon, home page layout, equipment email preferences, and other settings.
 

6. View Usage Reports

  1. Select User Report from the left-hand menu.


7. Access instrumentation documentation

a. For SOPs, instructional videos, and support documents: Click Documents in the left-hand menu.

8. Submit Service Requests to the Machine Shop

  1. For Research Machine Shop services: Select Collaborate and Service from the left-hand menu.


9. Add instrumentation to FOM

  1. If you manage an instrument and would like to add that instrument to the FOM system, please email the appropriate Facility Administrator (ie MME, ME, SIF, etc).  If you do not know the Facility Administrator, send your request to sif@mines.edu.

 

Tips for Success

  1. Always keep your worktags current.
  2. Review your profile settings regularly.
  3. Check documentation before requesting support.
  4. If you have not accessed FOM for over 365 days, your account will automatically be set to inactive.
    To reactivate your account,  please email sif@mines.edu and include an updated worktag.
