Logging in with your New Mines Student Worker User and Email Account

If you’ve been assigned a Mines student worker email (firstname_lastname_sw@mines.edu), follow these steps to log in and set up your new student worker user and email account:

Sign Out Of Your Regular Student User and Email Account:

  1. Go to my.mines.edu  
  2. If you’re currently signed in with your regular student email (firstname_lastname@mines.edu), sign out completely. Click your profile icon in the upper right hand corner and click Sign out.

Sign Into Your Student Worker User and Email Account For The First Time:

  1. On the my.mines.edu sign in screen, enter your student worker user account (firstname_lastname_sw) and click the Next button.

  2. You’ll be prompted to create a password. Set up a strong password for yourself that meets with requirements found on the new password popup.
  3. Confirm your password by typing it in again.
  4. You may then be prompted to sign into your multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Okta Verify. Follow the prompts to authenticate with Okta Verify.

Switch Between Student and Student Worker User and Email Accounts

Every time you clock into work, you’ll need to sign out of your regular student user account (firstname_lastname) and sign in using your student worker user account (firstname_lastname_sw).

When you clock out as a student worker and resume student work, you’ll need to sign out of your student worker user account (firstname_lastname_sw) and sign in using your regular student email account (firstname_lastname).

When you switch back and forth between your regular student and student worker user and email accounts, you may be prompted to sign into your multi-factor authentication (MFA) with Okta Verify.

My.mines.edu is role-based and the apps and services that are available to you are based upon your role on campus.  (Student / Employee)

New apps and services are always being added to my.mines.edu so check back frequently for new additions.

 

Navigating the Home Page

By default, your available apps and services will be categorized into different sections such as Basic AccessTeaching and Learning, etc.  You can navigate through the content by scrolling within your browser window or by using the links in the left-hand navigation panel to quickly jump to specific sections.

Notifications

The Notifications link towards the bottom of the navigation panel will provide you information related to changes and updates to my.mines.edu.  Any time new apps and services are made available to you, a notification should be sent out.  Please be sure to check these notifications from time-to-time to stay up-to-date on my.mines.edu.

Customizing the Home Page

The order in which apps and services appear within the my.mines.edu home page can be customized.  Simply left-click and drag one of these icons on top of another icon and its order will be updated.

You can also create a new section within your home page and add whichever apps and services you'd like into the space. Simply click the Add Section (+) tab in the lefthand navigation menu, give your section a name, and then drag your favorite apps and services into that space.

Note: There will be occasions in the future when my.mines.edu goes through system updates and there is a chance that your customized app order may be reverted to default.

Settings

To access your settings within my.mines.edu, simply click on the small arrow next to your name in the upper righthand corner and then click Settings from the drop-down menu.

In your settings screen, you will be able to view basic information about yourself including your first and last name, primary email address, phone number, etc.

Within settings, there is also a sub-section called security methods which will allow you to take the following actions:

  • Reset your password
  • Set up Okta Verify
  • Set up your phone number

Preferences

To access your preferences within my.mines.edu, simply click on the small arrow next to your name in the upper righthand corner. Then, select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

Within the preferences section, you have the following options:

  • The choice to turn on / off a recently used section, which will display your most recently used apps and services at the top of your my.mines.edu homepage.
  • The ability to display your apps and services in either grid view or list view.
  • There is an option to customize how long pop-up messages stay visible on screen.

Recent Activity

To access your recent activity within my.mines.edu, simply click on the small arrow next to your name in the upper righthand corner and then select recent activity from the drop-down menu.

Within recent activity, you have access to the following information:

  • A list of the last 100 successful sign-ins to your account.  This can help you ensure that no fraudulent login attempts were made.
  • Your most recent security events which include things like updating your password or enrolling in Multi-Factor Authentication.
