General Description: ArcGIS is a map editing software.

Availability: For classroom/lab availability see Campus Computing Labs. ArcGIS Server editions and other related ESRI products are available for standalone computers.

Method for Obtaining:

  • ArcGIS Online is available online at https://csmgis.maps.arcgis.com/ and through my.mines.edu
  • ArcGIS and ArcGIS Pro are pre-installed within specific computer labs and available for download through Software Center on IT-managed Windows computers that are used by academic departments.
  • ArcGIS Pro for Desktop is not available for educational programs. More information here.

Documentation:  Training can be found in the training section of the ArcGIS website. Mines has free access to all courses on ESRI’s Virtual Campus. Please see your ESRI linked account at https://csmgis.maps.arcgis.com/ for more information.

How to log into ArcGIS Online:

  1. To access ArcGIS online, please visit: http://csmgis.maps.arcgis.com
  2. Click on the “Colorado School of Mines” button to be taken to a login page where you will enter your full Mines username and Mines password. This will bring you into ArcGIS online. 

How to log into ArcGIS Desktop Software:

  1. To log into the software, enter our ArcGIS organization URL as csmgis, and then click “Continue”. Use your Mines username and Mines password to log in. 

How to change a computer that was set to Concurrent Use licensing:

  • When you start ArcGIS on a lab computer you may be presented with this screen:

  • Select the drop down menu for License Type and change it to Named User License
  • Verify that the Server URL field is set to https://www.arcgis.com

  • After clicking "OK" you will see a login screen.
  • Click on the Your ArcGIS organization's URL section.

  • Enter csmgis in the dialog box, and check the checkbox for Remember this URL

  • When you click "Continue" you will be presented with the Mines login portal. Use your Mines username and Mines password to login.

To install the software:

  • Navigate to my.mines.edu and click on the ArcGIS tile
    • Optional: See information about getting started with ArcGIS Pro at https://learn.arcgis.com/en/projects/get-started-with-arcgis-pro
  • While on Colorado School of Mines GIS Space page, click on your profile name at the top right to access the toolbar, then click on “My settings

 

  • On the left, click “Licenses”, then scroll down to “ArcGIS Pro” then click “Download” and select your language.

 

  • Run the installer downloaded in the previous step. We recommend leaving all settings as is, however you can customize them to fit your installation if necessary.
  • After the installer completes, make sure “Run ArcGIS Pro now.” is selected, then hit finish.
  • You will now be prompted to sign in, under the “Sign in with” section click “Your ArcGIS organization’s URL” and enter “csmgis” then hit “Continue
  • You will then be prompted for your Mines credentials, follow the instructions on screen.
  • Your product is now licensed and ready to use! We recommend running any updates recommended by the ArcGIS Pro software.
