What is the SOC?

Summary

The Security Operation Center (SOC) monitors, assesses, and defends against cybersecurity threats on the Mines’ network.

Body

The Security Operation Center (SOC) monitors, assesses, and defends against cybersecurity threats on the Mines’ network.  We notify and defend the Mines community against:

  • Suspicious log ins from different countries
  • Phishing emails
  • Compromised accounts
  • Files shared with non-Mines accounts
  •  Viruses or malware
  • Ransomware
  • Botnets

SOC employees will notify the Mines student, faculty, or staff member through a ticket from Team Dynamix, alerting the user about the suspicious activity. Each ticket recipient will receive an email from notify@teamdynamix.com. The ticket will be requested on the user’s behalf, so the user is immediately notified and they will be to easily find the ticket request at https://www.helpcenter.mines.edu.

If a member of the Mines community received a potential phishing email, they can forward the email to phishing@mines.edu. The SOC employees will run an investigation of the email to determine the validity of the email and will promptly respond with their findings. The SOC recommends that all members of the Mines community check the sender’s email address before clicking on any links, opening files, or giving out personal information.

Any other questions or concerns relating to the SOC can be directed to soc@mines.edu or x2762
