How to Use your Admin account

 

In some cases it may be beneficial to updates or install necessary software. In these appropriate instances you can use an Administrator account without having to log out and login to the machine. NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ADMIN ACCOUNT OR ARE UNSURE THEN YOU LIKELY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS. IF YOU ARE CERTAIN YOU NEED THIS ACCESS PLACE A REQUEST TICKET AT helpcenter.mines.edu.

 

1.Whenever you see this prompt or a similar one, an admin account is being requested. By default it will have the account that is currently being used. This will not work. We need to make a change so we can input our Admin credentials. 

First you are coing to select More choices.

  1. Then you are going to scroll down and select Use a Different Account

    1. Two boxes should appear. Now you need to put in your admin username (this is typically the same as your regular username with _a at the end i.e. username_a), and your password that is unique to your admin account (this password is typically not the same as your multipass password.

  1. In some cases your Admin username may need a .\ in front of it as seen below. When your admin account was setup your ITS technician should have given instructions to this fact. If you are unsure you can reach out to ITS to find out whether or not your admin username needs .\.

  1. Once your credentials are filled out click Yes or press enter. If put in correctly this window should disappear and your computer should resume.
