Prerequisites: You must know the name of the print server and the name of the print queue to which you want to map.
1. Map the print queue.
Open up the MacOS System Preferences utility and then open Printers & Scanners.
To add a new printer, click on the + symbol at the lower left-hand corner of the dialog.
The Add dialog box opens. Right-Click (or Control Click w/single button Mac mouse) and select Customize Toolbar from the context menu.
Click and drag the Advanced icon to the toolbar then click the Done button.
Click your mouse on the Advanced icon in the toolbar to open up the printer search dialog.
The Searching for printers process will run for 10 or 20 seconds.
When the search process completes, the dialog box will be populated with some default information.
Change the Type: field to Windows printer via spoolss.
In the URL: field, enter the SMB address of the print queue you want to map.
For example, if your target print queue is the printer named ah153-printer on the server named lightning.mines.edu then your entry would be SMB://lightning.mines.edu/ah153-printer
The Name and Location fields should be populated with a description of the printer and its physical location.
Select the Choose a Driver drop-down menu and choose the Generic Postscript Printer option and click the Add button.
If your printer can print on both sides of the paper, known as "duplexing", select that option and click OK.
Your print queue is now mapped.
2. Test the print queue.
Double-click on the new printer mapping to open up the printer's job (queue) list.
Select the Printer menu at the top of the screen, and then select Print Test Page.
